5 Little Monkeys Lesson Plan

Introduction

The classic nursery rhyme "5 Little Monkeys" is a great way to teach young children about counting, sequencing, and simple addition and subtraction. This lesson plan provides a variety of activities that you can use to teach this rhyme to your students.

Materials

  • Chart paper or whiteboard
  • Markers
  • 5 stuffed monkeys or puppets
  • A bed or other large object for the monkeys to jump on
  • A doctor's kit (optional)

Procedure

  1. Sing the "5 Little Monkeys" rhyme with your students.
  2. As you sing the rhyme, point to the chart paper or whiteboard and write down the numbers 1-5.
  3. Have your students help you count the monkeys as they jump on the bed.
  4. When the monkeys fall off the bed, have your students help you cross out the numbers on the chart paper or whiteboard.
  5. Continue singing the rhyme until all of the monkeys have fallen off the bed.
