Harris Leads Trump in Reuters/Ipsos Poll

Democratic Nominee in Pole Position

Late-breaking survey has Harris eking out narrow lead over Trump in hypothetical 2024 matchup

Vice President Kamala Harris has moved swiftly to assert herself as the de facto Democratic nominee for president in 2024, and a new poll suggests she may have the upper hand over former President Donald Trump.

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that Harris leads Trump by a margin of 44% to 42% in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup. Both results fall within the poll's margin of error, suggesting a close race. In a separate hypothetical matchup, Trump narrowly defeated Biden by 45% to 43% while holding a slim 47% to 45% edge over Harris.

Harris's lead over Trump is consistent with other recent polls, suggesting she is the Democratic frontrunner. In the last Marist survey, Biden's unfavorable rating was 7 points worse than Harris's, further bolstering her position.

Kamala Harris has the support of enough Democratic delegates to win the party's nomination, all but locking her in as the party's standard-bearer. She is expected to formally announce her candidacy in the coming weeks.

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to begin Aug. 17, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala," President Biden said in a recent statement, signaling his endorsement for Harris's candidacy.
